Presidio reaching out to service members during Military Saves Week

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- As part of Military Saves Week 2015, the Presidio of Monterey is spreading the saving message and urging the community to participate in Military Saves Week Feb. 23 - 28.

Military Saves Week is an annual opportunity for installations and organizations to promote good savings behavior and a chance for service members and their families to assess their own saving status. Typically thousands of organizations participate in the week, reaching millions of people, according to the organization's website.

The motto for Military Saves Week is "Set a Goal, Make a Plan, and Save Automatically."

To help people save more successfully and encourage more people to save, the Presidio of Monterey partnered with Central Coast Federal Credit Union to offer military members, families and DOD civilians financial-planning assistance. The financial-planning advice is an opportunity to help people get their finances under control or make plans to save for an emergency.

To assist community members achieve their saving goals, CCFCU will offer free financial-planning advice at the mid-POM Java Cafe 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 24 and 26.

MILITARY SAVES BACKGROUND

Military Saves, part of America Saves, is part of the Department of Defense's Financial Readiness Campaign and has been a partner with DOD since 2003. It is a research-based campaign that uses the principles of behavioral economics and social marketing to change behavior. The campaign seeks to motivate, support, and encourage military families to save money, reduce debt, and build wealth.

Military Saves promotes access to a range of financial readiness resources that can help them with their debt reduction and savings goals.

As part of the campaign, all service members, their families, and civilian employees are encouraged to take the Military Saves pledge at www.militarysaves.org/for-savers/savings-tools-and-resources/take-the-pledge.
