VICENZA, Italy -- Soldiers assigned to the 511th Military Police Platoon at Camp Darby, Italy work with their Carabinieri counterparts on a routine basis addressing the safety and well-being of the American military community. Conducting vehicle inspections is just one of the multiple force protection functions the MPs and Carabinieri perform jointly. In addition to joint operations on force protection measures, MPs and Carabinieri partner in the performance of other tasks including investigations of off post traffic accidents involving U.S. service members.
"The integration of Carbinieri and MPs are key to our community law enforcement and force protection efforts," said U.S. Army Garrision, Vicenza commander Col. Robert L. Menist Jr. "Under the unique framework of the Status of Forces Agreement and other host nation laws that exist in Italy, the importance of a cooperative and collaborative relationship between the MPs and Carabinieri cannot be overstated."
