REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- The Secretary of the Army has approved the selection of James B. Johnson Jr. for the position of director with the U.S Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command's Future Warfare Center.

Since May 2010, Johnson has served as the executive director for the U.S. Army Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment Activity at Redstone Arsenal after previously serving as the director of the Developmental Test Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., from July 2008 until May 2010.

The USASMDC/ARSTRAT Future Warfare Center develops the Army's space and missile defense doctrine and concepts, validates requirements, and ensures Army-wide solution integration. The FWC rapidly advances innovations for space, missile defense, high altitude and cyber to the Warfighter through prototype development, experimentation and wargames, analytical assessments, and modeling and simulation development.

Johnson graduated with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in systems engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He also holds a Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College. Johnson is a graduate of the Army Management Staff College and the Advanced Program Management Course.

Johnson, a member of the Senior Executive Service since Jan 2007, is scheduled to join SMDC in April.
