ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti, Illinois, visited here, Feb. 6, to learn about the various commands on the island, their missions and how they economically impact the state.
Her visit began with a windshield tour highlighting the island's general layout, facilities and historical landmarks.
After the tour she visited the Corps of Engineers, Rock Island Division, which is responsible for five river basins in five states at the heart of the Upper Mississippi River basin. The tour then continued to U.S. Army Sustainment Command headquarters.
Guided by Maj. Gen. Kevin O'Connell, ASC commanding general and RIA senior mission commander, Sanguinetti received briefings about operations, RIA's global reach, and local impact from the commands that operate on the island, including ASC; Army Contracting Command - Rock Island; U.S. Army Garrison - RIA; Edgewood Chemical and Biological Center and Armament Research, Development and Engineering.
After the one hour briefing, Sanguinetti continued her tour to Joint Munitions Command headquarters where Patricia Huber, deputy to the commander, JMC, gave a briefing about JMC's operations and projects. JMC is responsible for providing munitions to America's joint forces.
Sanguinetti's visit at the island concluded at the Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center where she toured the factory and was briefed on its capabilities to produce more than 300 items for the warfighter.
This was Sanguinetti's first visit to the island as lieutenant governor of Illinois.
