FORT STEWART, Georgia -- (Feb. 5, 2015) Officials from the Mission and Installation Contracting Command at Fort Stewart, Georgia, hosted their second business outreach event Jan. 29 for 32 small business contractors.
Curtis Scott, the MICC-Fort Stewart small business specialist, presented the small business forecast open house offering a glimpse into future contracting opportunities at the installation. Upcoming major acquisitions discussed included paving, painting, job order contract, low-water crossing, timber bridges, real property inspectors and warehouse support, maintenance of railroad crossing signals, grounds maintenance, and budget analyst support.
"This event supports small businesses with limited resources in identifying small business opportunities within Mission and Installation Contracting Command," said Ida Ramirez, an assistant director for the MICC Small Business Programs at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
"Small businesses are the backbone of this country's economy and have helped MICC-Fort Stewart achieve all their small business goals for five years straight," said Curtis Scott, a small business specialist for the MICC-Fort Stewart Small Business Programs at Fort Stewart.
A presentation on the Small Business Administration's HUBZone program, the use of reverse auctioning, and the Georgia Tech Procurement Assistance Center as well as a question-and-answer session for those in attendance were held after the acquisition forecast briefing.
"It is important for small businesses to understand the HUBZone program since we place extra emphasis on setting aside HUBZone opportunities to meet the Army's HUBZone goal," Scott said.
The HUBZone presentation was a big hit with small business contractors unfamiliar with that particular SBA program and what it takes to qualify and maintain HUBZone certification.
"Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive and several suggested combining this event with other Mission and Installation Contracting Command contracting offices in Georgia," Ramirez said.
As a result of this business outreach event, small businesses are able to be more strategic in business development and responsive in seeking future small business opportunities within the MICC.
