FORT BENNING, Ga., (Feb. 4, 2015) -- 14th Combat Support Hospital trampled 5th Squadron, 15th Cavalry Regiment, 64-19 in an intramural basketball game Jan. 26 at Smith Fitness Center.

To summarize the game, 14th CSH's head coach Gerald Mosley said "we made layups."

"I have been trying to get them to do that for three games now," he said. "They finally listened and started making the layups and now put up 64 points."

With strong passing and capitalizing on steals, 14th CSH dominated the game.

14th CSH took control of the first 13 minutes of the first half with layups and free throws, collecting 16 points before 5/15's Jedon Matthews broke the scoring silence by adding two points to the scoreboard.

With 2:11 remaining in the half, 14th CSH went on another scoring run, putting up eight unanswered points to extend their lead to 27-8 by halftime.

14th CSH's Chad Brewington contributed eight of his game-high 12 points in the first half. 14th CSH's Jimmy Bennett and Demetrius McDougald trailed Brewington with 11 points each.

Midway through the second half, 14th CSH managed to duplicate its scoring spurt with another 16-point run, rounding out its lead to 47-15.

Around the same time, Mosley said 14th CSH players started playing "fancy," so he subbed them out.

"I don't use fancy," he said. "Fanciness is lazy basketball. After the score widened out a little bit we started trying stuff (and) not doing (the) basics. (That's) taking away from what we are tying to do. Subbing them out gets them back into the game (and) when they go back in, they put up 64 points."

With five minutes left and after two baskets by 5/15's Allen Jones, who had a team-high eight points, 14th CSH ended the game on a 12-point run, leaving Edward Lewis to seal the deal with a slam dunk.

Mosley said 14th CSH's defense started out with a 2-3 zone.

"After we figured out (5/15) couldn't stay with us on the offense or defensive end (we figured) why not go to a man (defense)?" he said. "They didn't have any real good ball handlers so they had to rely on passes - half of them were lazy passes."

Mosley said his players played the passing lanes well.

"Once we got the ball, somebody (was) always running up the floor for an easy layup," he said.

14th CSH displayed a rhythmic passing game, which Mosley said comes from playing together for three years.

"We all know how each other plays," he said. "If someone PCSes ... we add in another person that basically has that same skill set so its easier for them to pick up ... it's easy to coach that type of basketball."
