FORT CARSON, Colorado -- Unity could be seen and heard on Fort Carson's McKibben Gym Track as teams negotiated the seven events which made up the "Ivy Heptathlon" Jan. 27 as part of Iron Horse Week.

2nd Battalion, 77th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, won the competition with a time of 41 minutes, 14 seconds.

Heptathlon events included a log press, log squats, hand grenade throw, pull-ups, 800- meter run, 1,000-meter row and a "burpee-lunge" event.

Soldiers said they enjoyed the competition and the camaraderie in the event.

"It's great to be representing my battalion in this event," said 2nd Lt. Michael Zequeira, battalion safety officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Inf. Div., after competing in the heptathlon. "I am extremely proud of how this team worked together and competed."

Teams for the heptathlon were comprised of six Soldiers. All members of the team were required to complete every event. Throughout the events, team members encouraged each other, even running back to finish the 800-meter run with teammates once completing it.

"We started and finished as a team," said Sgt. Chris Semiramis, training room NCOIC, Company I, 1st Bn., 68th Armor Reg. "After completing it, we were smoked, but it feels great to know we got through it together."
