FORT BENNING, Ga., (Jan. 21, 2015) -- Officials from Fort Benning Combined Federal Campaign said its 2014 campaign wrapped up with $582,414 in donations, thanks to new features that made donating easier for participants.

From Sept. 1 to Dec. 15, federal employees gave to more than 21,000 charities nationwide. Local organizations include Santa's Castle, PAWS Humane, United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley, Ranger Memorial Foundation, National Infantry Foundation, Feeding the Valley and the American Cancer Society.

Laura Walker, CFC manager for Columbus and Fort Benning, said the use of MyPay electronic giving has increased since it was implemented in 2013. Service members and DOD employees can give either by filling out a paper form, which is available from unit key persons or electronically by logging in to MyPay.

"This was the second year of giving online through MyPay and we saw a huge increase in the amount of people who gave with MyPay - it seemed people were getting more comfortable with giving electronically," Walker said. "This year we had 627 donors with a total $136,000 with MyPay."

The Universal Giving Program gave participants the option to donate to any charity of their choice, regardless of where they are stationed. Walker said the of charities donors gave to increased by 25 percent.

"Giving back is something our community likes to do, and CFC is just one way," she said. "There is still a lot of need out there and CFC makes it easy for you to support your passions and what you feel needs your help the most."

Awards for CFC's most improved units, exceptional leadership and the Commander's Trophy will be given during the Quarterly Recognition of Excellence Breakfast Feb. 26 at the Benning Club.
