ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- Federal, military and postal employees, donated $374,214 to local, national and international charities, through the Illowa Bi-State Combined Federal Campaign during the 2014 campaign which ran from October 9 through December 31, 2014.

At a CFC awards ceremony here, Jan. 15, Maj. Gen. Kevin G. O'Connell, commanding general of Army Sustainment Command, and honorary chairperson of the local CFC, presented Rick Widdel, principal combined fund organization representative, with a check for donations made by federal employees to hundreds of charities.

"The success of the Combined Federal Campaign demonstrates the generosity of the federal workforce," said O'Connell. "We're honored to give back to those who need it more."

"I'm happy to announce that employees from six organizations donated a total of more than $20,000 each this year," said O'Connell. "These include Army Sustainment Command, Joint Munitions Command, Joint Manufacturing Technology Center, Army Contracting Command-Rock Island, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Rock Island Arsenal U.S. Army Garrison. That is phenominal."

The Combined Federal Campaign is the only authorized solicitation of federal and postal employees in the work place on behalf of charitable organizations. Employees donate to CFC charities to make a lasting difference in people's lives in the Quad City Area and beyond. The 2014 slogan was "Give for Good".

Representatives from several charities that benefit from CFC donations asked to speak at the awards ceremony. These included American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities, Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Ronald McDonald House, and United Way of the Quad City Area. They shared how CFC donations benefit the services they offer to the public.

"We cannot do the work we do without your help," said Tiffany Bainter, Donor Relations Manager at United Way, as she summed up the heartfelt appreciation of all the charities.

"I'm thrilled that we were able to contribute more than $374,000 this year to CFC charities," said Rebecca Freeman, Illowa Bi-State CFC co-chair. "And, of course, our goal is to raise even more next year."

With 42 percent of donations staying in the Quad City area, 11 percent of federal and postal workers in the 37- county bi-state area made donations. The top three agencies with the highest donations were St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Humane Society of Rock Island and American Red Cross.
