WASHINGTON, (Jan. 16, 2015) -- Admiral Bill Gortney, commander of U.S. Northern Command, visited with Maj. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, commander of Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region/ U.S. Army Military District of Washington and his staff at Fort Lesley J. McNair. This was Admiral Gortney's first visit to the JFHQ-NCR/MDW since taking command of U.S. Northern Command in December, 2014.
Gortney was presented information on the mission and capabilities of the JFHQ-NCR/MDW by Egon Hawrylak, JFHQ-NCR/MDW deputy commander and other staff leaders.
JFHQ-NCR, based at Fort Lesley J. McNair, Washington, D.C. plans, partners, maintains situational awareness, and as directed by U.S. Northern Command, employs forces as a Joint Task Force conducting homeland defense and civil support operations to defend and secure the National Capital Region.
