FORT SILL, Okla. (Jan. 15, 2015) -- This is the fifth article in the continuing series of Frequently Asked Questions about Fort Sill's new gate access policy.

Everyone who does not have a Department of Defense (DoD) issued identification card will need to get a pass to gain entry to Fort Sill. This includes all adults in the vehicle if they don't have DoD ID regardless of their relationship to the sponsor. A VA healthcare enrollee ID card is NOT considered a DoD issued ID card.

If you have a DoD issued ID (service member/family member/retiree/civilian employee), there is no need for a pass for yourself.

1. Is the deadline still the end of January?

No. The Fort Sill Garrison commander has pushed the deadline to Feb. 17. The priority in the meantime is to get background checks and credentials for contractors, bank personnel, AAFES and DeCA staff and Lawton Public School staff.

2. Why is Fort Sill firing contractors who have not passed the background check?

Fort Sill cannot fire contract employees. Only the company the employee works for can terminate employment. The employee works for that company, not directly for the Army.

3. I've found the form online, but need to know where can I submit it?

Currently, we are unable to accept online submissions. We are hoping that will change very soon. If you are in the area, you can access the Fort Sill form (FS118a), fill it out and you may come on post before Feb. 17 and drop your application off at the Directorate of Emergency Services, Building 5030 Hatch Road. The priority for contractors, etc., will still be the same, but your form will be processed.

Access the form at http://sill-www.army.mil/ Click on the "Fort Sill" tab, go to "Official documents/forms," choose "Fort Sill Forms" and click on the appropriate selection for FS118a.

4. I'm traveling through along I-44 and just want to stop at the museum. Do I really need to go to Sheridan Road to get a pass?

Yes. The passes will be given at the Visitor's Control Center at the Bentley Gate on Sheridan Road. The VCC site was chosen for security reasons and to alleviate any traffic congestion.

5. I am a Soldier who is chaperoning/sponsoring an elementary school tour from an off-post school. Do the students and teachers need passes if I show my ID?

The adults in the group will need passes (including the bus driver). The students will not. Every adult (or child over 16 years-old) who does not have a DoD issued ID card must get a pass. Also, any operator of a vehicle, of any age, who doesn't have a a DoD issued ID, will need a pass.
