FORT BENNING, Georgia (Jan. 2, 2015) -- Officials from the Mission and Installation Contracting Command at Fort Benning, Georgia, hosted a three-part business outreach event Dec. 17 for 99 large and small business representatives.

Brenda Clark, the MICC-Fort Benning deputy director, led the contracting office staff in presenting the Small Business Forecast Open House offering insight into future contracting opportunities at the installation. Upcoming major acquisitions discussed included base engineering support, full food service and dining facility attendant follow-on contracting efforts.

"These events publicize the command's acquisition forecast, and that publicity increases competition for Army contracts, broadens industry participation in Army contracts, and assists small businesses in winning Army contracts," said Pete Hunter, an assistant director for the MICC Small Business Programs at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

After a mid-morning break, contracting representatives from MICC Fort Rucker, Alabama, presented a slide show on fiscal 2015 opportunities at its installation. Small business specialist Michael Faire assisted contracting officers Yolanda Bickham and Symone Collins in presenting information on upcoming contract opportunities with the directorate of public works and Aeromedical Electronic Resource Office.

A training brief on the use of reverse auctioning as well as a small-business networking breakout for those in attendance were held between the two presentations. Reverse auctioning allows Army requirements to be solicited online through a fully automated process offering greater efficiencies for both MICC customers and contracting personnel.

The afternoon was dedicated to a Fort Benning Maneuver Center of Excellence Industry Day. MICC-Fort Benning's Elvira Lenoir and Maj. Kizzie Danser presented, with subject matter expert Susan Bailey, an update to industry on the acquisition planning for the future procurement services in support of the Infantry and Armor schools. The existing MCoE small and large business suite indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contracts expire in May 2016. IDIQ contracts provide for an indefinite quantity of services for a fixed period against which task orders are placed.

MICC officials received positive feedback from industry leaders on the business networking opportunities, planning and maximum use of the day.

"The response from small businesses has been overwhelmingly and enthusiastically positive," Hunter said. "That enthusiasm highlights not only the fine job MICC-Fort Benning did in conducting the event but also the need for events like this in order to help small businesses identify Army requirements early in the acquisition life cycle at a time when they can plan to compete for and then win Army contracts."
