The BASOPS Maintenance Division POV Inspection Station located at Tower Barracks, Bldg. 301, will change its hours of operation for January. The new hours, just for January, are: 6 a.m. to noon and 12:45-4 p.m., Monday-Friday. The last customer will be seen at 11:45 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. Closed on U.S. and German holidays.

PLEASE NOTE: Major changes have been made and additional restrictions added to standards for off-post uniform wear. Please make note of each change and restriction.

• Wearing military uniforms off post is authorized only when traveling from home to the installation, or from traveling between installations within a garrison (i.e. from Tower Barracks to Hohenfels.)

• This uniformed travel is authorized ONLY when traveling in an enclosed private, government or rental vehicle.

• Traveling in uniform by motorcycle/scooter, bicycle or foot is prohibited. Traveling via public transportation, even taxis, is also prohibited.

• It is prohibited to wear a uniform while escorting children to/from or waiting at an off-post DoDDS bus stop.

• Even when not in uniform, DoD personnel are restricted from carrying backpacks or other items that convey DoD affiliation while traveling on motorcycle/scooter, bicycle or foot.

• While in off-post hotels, uniforms may be worn while departing or arriving in an enclosed vehicle. Uniforms cannot be worn in common areas of the hotels, i.e. breakfast/dining rooms, bars and gyms.

• Physical fitness uniforms cannot be worn off post.

German home load deemed illegal

Due to a decision by the German Supreme Court, a fee that banks often imposed on people requesting a home loan has been deemed illegal. While this does not apply to all bank fees for loans, it will apply in many cases. Anyone who applied for such a loan is encouraged to bring their contract to the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate office for review and advice as quickly as possible.

Bldg. 244 bus stop relocation

Starting 15 Dec: The bus stop in front of Bldg. 244 (Soldier for Life building) will relocate 100 meters to the west side of the building. This change is necessary to prevent pedestrian-related accidents.

Army in Europe to change emergency dialing numbers in 2015 Starting 1 Jan: The U.S. Army in Europe plans to change the on-post emergency dialing number on all USAREUR installations to 112 starting 1 Jan. Installations are switching to a single number to better align with standard emergency numbers throughout the European Union and U.S. Air Force installations in Europe. Industrial paper shredder out of order

The industrial paper shredder located at the Centralized Recycling Center across Range 118 in Tower Barracks is out of order. Ordered parts will be delivered and installed in calendar week 4 next year. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Holiday and new operation houses at Rose and Tower Barracks Postal Service Centers

24 Dec: The Rose and Tower Barracks Postal Service Centers (PSCs) will offer Operation Santa Claus with Parcel Pick Up (receiving parcels) only from 0900-1800. There are no Postal Finance Services (sending mail) being offered.

25 & 26 Dec: Facilities will be closed due to Federal Holidays.

29 Dec: The Rose and Tower Barracks Postal Service Centers (PSCs) will change to new regular operating hours of:

Mon - Wed and Fri : Postal Finance (sending mail): 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Parcel Pick Up (receiving parcels): 10 a.m.- 5:45 p.m.

Thurs: Postal Finance (sending mail): 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and Parcel Pick Up (receiving parcels): 11:30 a.m.- 5:45 p.m.

Rose Barracks Christmas tree disposal

Off-post housing: Trees can be brought to the local community Recycling Yards ("Wertstoffhof") during routine opening hours free of charge. Tower Barracks and off-post Grafenwoehr tree disposal

Off-post Grafenwoehr & Eschenbach: 10 Jan. Place your tree curbside NLT 8 a.m. marked with a disposal ticket. You can get your disposal ticket at City of Grafenwoehr banks for 1.50 euro and City of Eschenbach banks for 2 euro (you must get your ticket in the city you live in.) Please remove all decorations.

On-post Tower Barracks: 29 Dec & 7 Jan. Place the tree at your nearest recycling point NLT 7:30 a.m. Please remove all decorations.

Do you own a Harley? If so, please be aware: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall notice for certain 2015-2015 Harley-Davidson FLS Softail motorcycles because of a potential defect with the lamp-outage detection indicator for the front turn signals. The bikes produced from march 25, 2013, to Oct, 2, 2014, are subject to recall. Harley-Davidson will notify owners and fix the body control module software free of charge. Owners may contact the stateside customer service office at 1-800-258-2464. The recall number for Harley-Davidson is 0618.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

This time of year, with all the holiday parties and festive occasions, many partygoers will be drinking. If you're celebrating with alcohol this holiday season, The Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) has a message for you: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. Due to the increase in drunk-driving-related fatalities around the holidays each year, law enforcement agencies across USAG Bavaria will be out in force 12 Dec-1 Jan actively searching for drunk drivers. If you will be drinking, do not plan on driving. Plan ahead; designate a sober driver before the party begins. If you have been drinking, do not drive. Call a taxi, phone a sober friend or family member, use public transportation or call your unit CQ or Staff Duty.

Collecting for Critters

Animal shelters in and around the Oberpfalz, as well as in Eastern Europe are in desperate need of old blankets, towels, small rugs, and food, food, food. They also take expired first aid kits. If you want to donate your used items please contact me at Livingston.23@t-online.de.

High-visibility vests now required inside vehicles A new regulation now makes it mandatory to have a high-visibility vest inside vehicles in Germany. The vest can be red, yellow or orange, but must comply with German or European standards. Drivers found without a vest in their vehicles may be fined. The vest must be inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle and not in the trunk. Only one vest per car is required, but one vest for each person is not discouraged. Fines can be as high as 1,300 euros.

Reconnection Workshops

The American Red Cross is offering Reconnection Workshops to support and ease transitions associated with Army life along with training and deployments. These are confidential small-group modules, led by licensed mental health professionals. The workshops focus on building skills that enhance the likelihood of positive reconnections among family members, as well as the successful reengagement of the service member in civilian life, by increasing interactions and developing additional sources of support. Military Health Clinics closed on Training Holidays Military health clinics will be closed for patient care on all training holidays. This includes clinics in Vilseck, Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels. If you are in need of medical advice or care on training holidays, federal holidays or weekends, you are encouraged to call the Nurse Advice Line at 00800-4759-2330. This toll-free line is available 24/7 to answer your health-related questions and direct you to the appropriate level of care. In case of emergency, please go to your nearest host nation hospital.

Vehicle Processing Center holiday hours

The VPC will close at 1 p.m. on 24 Dec. It will reopen for business on 29 Dec. They will close at 3 p.m. on 31 Dec and will reopen for business on 5 Jan.

Education Centers holiday closures

25 Dec-4 Jan: Hohenfels, Garmisch and Tower Barracks Education Centers will be closed. The Rose Barracks center will be closed 25-26 Dec & 1-2 Jan, but OPEN 29-31 Dec with minimal services like counseling/admin/computer lab services which will include out-processing for Soldiers. All facilities will open with normal hours 5 Jan.

Drivers Training and Testing Station in Tower Barracks Bldg. 301 The Drivers Training and Testing Station has relocated from Tower Barracks Bldg. 244 to Bldg. 301, 3rd floor, Rm. 200B. University of Oklahoma - Vilseck

Torchlight guided tour in Vilseck

30 Dec: As another year comes to an end, Vilseck's famous night watchman "Tschung" (Josef Eierer) embarks on his traditional walk around the town, delivering his witty remarks with even more vigour. The tour is held in German. No prior registration required, just pay Tschung in cash before departure. 5 - 6 p.m., in 92249 Vilseck. Meet on Marktplatz. Fees are € 2.

Lantern Walk in Pottenstein

31 Dec: Enjoy a guided walk through the wintery area. There will be a small surprise for every participant at the end! No participation fees but you need to put your name(s) on a list of participants; call 09243-70841. Warm up sledge race aka Hornschlitten

5 Jan: This is the warm-up race and party before the big shebang tomorrow. In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Partenkirchen subdivision, on Kirchplatz at Ludwigstraße 46. Program: 4 p.m. Team registration: 4:30 p.m.: Start of the race: 5 p.m. Preliminary rounds for children and adults: 6 p.m. Final of the ten best teams: 7 p.m. Award ceremony and party.

Hornschlitten sled race

6 Jan: At 12:30 p.m., in 82467 Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Partenkirchen subdivision, Wildenauer Straße/ access road to the Olympia Ski Stadion, then right towards "Partnachklamm". Parking is available at the Olympia Ski Stadion on Karl-und-Martin-Neuner-Platz 3. Several courageous men and women take the death-defying ride down the hill from the Partnachalm (mountain inn) all the way to the club cottage of the Hornschlitten Association (Wildenau 3). The sleds are specially built for this event. A large screen will be set up at the end-point and will show the whole race.Spectators need to be aware of the following: You must move away from the cordoned-off areas. Please ensure you're wearing appropriate winter boots and clothes - the area is not cleared! Children are not allowed on the immediate edge of the racetrack, for safety reasons. Dogs must be on a leash. Spectators must be on site by midday. At 7 p.m. begins the "Hornschlitten-Ball" at the Bayernhalle, Brauhausstraße, where the awards ceremony and party takes place.

Epiphany/ Day of the Three Kings

6 Jan: This is the last of the 12 days of Christmas, beginning on 25 Dec and ending on 6 Jan, or Epiphany. It is customary in Bavaria and Austria for children dressed as the three wise men and holding up a large star to go from door to door, carolling and singing a Three Kings' song. This starts on 1 Jan and lasts until 6 Jan. For this they receive money or sweets. The money will go to charities helping the poor.
