FORT SILL, Okla. -- The newest Fort Sill Sergeant Audie Murphy Club members were inducted Dec. 15 in Kerwin Auditorium.
Sgt. 1st Class Shane Nickell, B Battery, 2nd Battalion, 4th Field Artillery; Staff Sgt. Dalani Born, D Battery, 1st Battalion, 19th Field Artillery and Staff Sgt. Nixon Pacheco, B Battery, 95th Adjutant General Reception Battalion are now members of the prestigious group.
"It's a lifetime achievement. In my career it's a definite milestone, and I would say probably less than 1 percent of noncommissioned officers in the Army get to be a part of this club," said Pacheco.
"I've wanted to do it since I was a private," said Born," so to finally be able to achieve it is humbling. I just feel honored to be among the elite NCOs in the force."
The Sergeant Audie Murphy Club is a private Army organization for enlisted noncommissioned officers only. NCOs whose leadership achievements and performance merit special recognition may possibly earn the reward of membership.
Members must exemplify leadership characterized by personal concern for the needs, training, development and welfare of Soldiers, and concern for families of Soldiers.
Nickell said serving as an example is what makes him most proud of earning the powder-blue ribbon and medallion.
"I feel honored to be a member of the club as well and to be able to provide an example to the
younger Soldiers and NCOs as they go throughout their career. It's a great accomplishment,"
said Nickell.
Command Sgt. Maj. Mark Aaron, 214th Fires Brigade CSM, was the guest speaker. He said the
inductees had to meet several prerequisites including high physical performance and then be recommended by their NCO chain-of-command before they can even participate in the rigorous board examination process.
"The Sergeant Audie Murphy Club honor was created to develop and inspire, and motivate the best
noncommissioned officers," said Aaron.
"As we look to the future we are well aware that our nation will require much from our noncommissioned officers corps," said Aaron. "And, like no other time in history, today we are
faced with significant challenges. But because of our noncommissioned officers; they stand ready to deploy, engage and destroy the enemy of the United States of America."
Each inductee received the Army Commendation Medal, Sergeant Audie Murphy Club medallion, a custom-made flag, a Forces Command, and Training and Doctrine Command certificate of membership and the Fort Sill SAMC Chapter coin.
