REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala.-An Army Reserve acquisition adviser is at the Army Contracting Command headquarters to help bridge the gap between Reservists and the command.

Lt. Col. ReniƩ Bright, a Reservist with the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology, reported for duty at ACC headquarters in November. Bright is the Army Reserve Sustainment Command's liaison officer at ACC.

"My focus is on assisting Reservists and connecting them with ACC to ensure they get the proper training they will need to deploy," said Bright. "We've identified some areas where we can make quick gains. And we've discussed placing (Reservists) in some of the contracting centers once they've graduated from the contracting basic course."

Bright said about 15 officers and 17 NCOs has been identified to receive on-the-job-training within ACC during the next year.

"ACC has always been supportive of training new contracting personnel," Bright said. "We are just formalizing a lot of what we've done in the past."

No stranger to Huntsville, in her civilian capacity Bright is a federal civilian employee with 25 years as a logistician and currently works at the Missile Defense Agency on Redstone Arsenal.

"I'll be on active duty here until September," Bright said. "If ACC says they still want a Reservist to be here after September, we'll take a look at it.

In addition, Bright said she is helping contracting officers selected for early release from the Army to transition into the Reserve where they can continue their service.

"That's a good thing. We would retain highly qualified personnel who have a lot to give," she said. "They want to serve and we want to capitalize on their experience. It's a win-win."
