With more than 80 "students" attending, AMCOM 101 unfolded in Bob Jones Auditorium on Thursday and Friday under the tutelage of "professor" Maj. Gen. Jim Richardson, AMCOM commander.

Richardson and senior AMCOM leaders presented AMCOM 101 to Combat Aviation Brigade commanders, National Guard commanders, unit commanders and their senior leaders in an initiative to help them understand the command's mission.

The "students" gathered from 16 units -- representing more than 60 percent of Army aviation -- to attend the two-day session. The "classes" focused on the exchange of information between stakeholders, and how AMCOM can assist in enabling readiness at the point of need.

For example, some of the educational topics covered included Field Support and Readiness, Packaging and Stock Readiness, as well as Condition Based Maintenance.

Also, hands-on awareness training at four support facilities managed by AMCOM acquainted the "students" with the unique support capabilities that AMCOM makes available to meet war fighting requirements.

Using a line from the Ray Parker Jr. theme song from the "Ghostbusters" movie, Richardson said: "Who ya gonna call?" He answered that himself: AMCOM.

"We're all here to help, and this is all about education," Richardson said. "We have a lot of Soldiers here from the 101st at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. You know who put the air in Air Assault? AMCOM did.

"AMCOM 101 is a fantastic opportunity for these commanders," he said. "They will come to know what AMCOM provides to them, and what we are capable of. That's what this is all about -- assuring that they are aware of what we can do for them."
