BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan--Lieutenant Colonel Marvin L. Walker, Army Field Support Battalion Bagram commander, was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the NATO medal during an awards ceremony at battalion headquarters Dec. 4 by Col. Matthew J. Ferguson, 401st Army Field Support Brigade commander. Ferguson said Walker assumed command at a tumultuous time when retrograde operations were moving a "mountain of iron and steel" during Operation Drum Beat. He credited Walker's calm and measured leadership style for guiding the battalion to accomplish that mission and position the battalion for a mission change in which it will be the only Army Field Support Battalion in Afghanistan.
