FORT SILL, Okla. -- The 77th Army Band will play a holiday concert Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. at McMahon Memorial Auditorium in Lawton.

Spc. Abraham Hancock, a trumpet player in the band, said it should begin about 6:30 p.m. as the band will begin playing early. This will give concert-goers time to find seats and chat with family and friends.

"The holiday concert is our big performance of the year," he said. "People will experience a top-quality concert featuring the talents of professional musicians."

It should last about an hour and will include concert, jazz, Latin, rock and New Orleans bands along with the brass quintet and Costello's Own bagpipers.

People who enjoy holiday music or Christmas melodies in a format different than what bombards them walking into any store may enjoy the Latin jazz ensemble. Also, Costello's Own will play "Silent Night" and other tunes on the bagpipes.

Hancock said people who like to sing or clap along to holiday melodies will certainly be welcome to help ring in the holiday cheer.

"It's an exciting time of the year for the band," said Hancock. "To express that excitement through my music is a great opportunity and one I'm looking forward to."
