REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel A. Dailey said he had the same goal that every enlisted Soldier should have: to be the sergeant major of the Army.
Before realizing that goal, Jan. 30, Dailey visited Army Materiel Command, or AMC, headquarters for an overview of the Army's global logistics enterprise.
"I have been the recipient of the finest logistics support in the world," said Dailey, referencing his five deployments.
Having led Soldiers from the squad level to a division task force, Dailey said some days were rough, but Soldiers never went hungry or without what they needed.
"I'm not a subject matter expert on logistics capabilities, but as a young Soldier, I was really good at breaking things," said Dailey during a briefing that outlined AMC's roles throughout the world. "And you're really good at fixing things."
AMC Command Sgt. Maj. James K. Sims hosted the visit and introduced Dailey as his mentor. The two were classmates at the Sergeants Major Academy.
"I personally enjoyed hosting Command Sgt. Maj. Dailey during his visit to our headquarters," Sims said. "It is good to know that he departed with a greater appreciation and respect for what our dedicated workforce accomplishes daily in support of the warfighter."
Command Sgt. Maj. James N. Ross also presented Dailey with an overview of U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command with headquarters at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
As Dailey finishes out his tour as the senior enlisted advisor for the Training and Doctrine Command, or TRADOC, he said he is pleased with the way the three Army Commands -- AMC, TRADOC and Forces Command -- work together. As the Army transitions and prepares for 2025 and beyond, Dailey said it seems to be the right juncture in history to align priorities while maintaining a competitive edge.
"We're headed in the right direction," he said.
From a training perspective, Dailey recounted recent initiatives that include adding rigor and relevance to Army training and making sure courses earn college equivalency credits.
Dailey will be sworn in as the 15th sergeant major of the Army at the Pentagon, Jan. 30.
