HOHENFELS, Germany (Nov. 26, 2014) -- This afternoon, Soldiers, civilians, families and friends celebrated an annual tradition, the American holiday Thanksgiving, at the Warrior Dining Facility on Hohenfels Training Area.
Joining the Americans were seven mayors from the surrounding German communities. The local mayors were invited as part of the Community Connector Program which is designed to strengthen the partnerships between military and the surrounding host nation communities.
"I was invited to the Thanksgiving event and I enjoyed it very much", said Willibad Gailler, the County Commissioner from the nearby town of Neumarkt.
For Americans, Thanksgiving is a widely celebrated cultural event which holds particular significance for U.S. Soldiers who are serving in locations around the world, often times apart from their families and friends in the United States.
Brig. Gen. Christopher G. Cavoli, commanding general of the Joint Multinational Training Command (JMTC), used the opportunity to recognize the exceptional service of several Soldiers assigned to the Joint Multinational Readiness Center.
"Our Soldiers have worked hard over the past year and this is great chance for us to thank them for all that they do", said Lt. Col. Patrick Kinsman, Deputy Commander of Operations Group at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC).
Then the leadership of both the JMRC and the JMTC took part in an annual tradition of serving the Thanksgiving Meal to the dining facility guests.
This year the Warrior Dining Facility provided a diverse meal of traditional American delicacies including turkey, roast beef, stuffing, cornbread, and a multitude of deserts.
