GRAFENWOEHR, Germany -- Nikki King takes aim with a shotgun while Hans Hathaway looks on, at the Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Turkey Shoot, in U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria, Nov. 15.

While the participants weren't aiming at live turkeys, the best shots of the day went home with a bird. Hathaway, Hunting, Fishing and Sport Shooting coordinator for Family and MWR, pinned paper turkeys on a line at the skeet range on Tower Barracks.

Participants leveled a 12-guage shotgun at the paper poultry, aiming at a target drawn in the middle of the bird. The shooter within a group who had the most pellets hit the target took home a free turkey. Nine birds were won.

Staff Sgt. Travis Keenan, 702nd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, had the highest shot count of the day with 21 pellets in his target. Keenan, who arrived with his wife, Shirley, and three daughters in tow, saw the Turkey Shoot as a chance to explore the skeet range.

"I've been wanting to come out here for a while," said Keenan. "And this is a great opportunity to get a free turkey."
