Two Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center employees were recently presented the prestigious Order of Saint Michael.
The Army Aviation Association of America awarded the Silver Order to Dave Cripps and Steve Sanders during the Army Aviation Association of America's Joseph P. Cribbins symposium in Huntsville Nov 6.
Cripps, the deputy director of the Aviation Engineering Directorate, had a distinguished aviation career of over 25 years of active duty. He is a Master Aviator; a graduate of West Point, served as a U.S. Army experimental test pilot, was selected by the Army and referred to NASA for astronaut consideration, and held numerous command positions including the Commander of the Aviation Technical Test Center. He also leads U.S. DoD efforts in developing airworthiness recognitions with Military Airworthiness Authorities around the globe.
Sanders, who serves as a subject matter expert within the mission equipment division, is a retired Army Chief Warrant Officer 4, a Master Aviator, a Master Gunner, and served as an AH-64 Apache Senior Standardization Instructor Pilot. He is also in an extremely small group of aviation professionals who flew the RAH-66 Comanche.
AMRDEC, a subordinate organization to the Research, Development and Engineering Command RDECOM, is the Army's focal point for providing research, development, and engineering technology and services for aviation and missile platforms across the lifecycle.
The Order of Saint Michael was established in 1990 as a joint venture between the AAAA and the U.S. Army Aviation Center. The award recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to the promotion of Army Aviation.
