REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (Nov. 13, 2014) -- The Army recognized engineers and scientists from the Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center recently for obtaining patents on new defense-related inventions.

James Lackey, AMRDEC Director, presented the awards Nov. 12 at Building 5400.

"This goes to the heart of who we are as an Army Research Development and Engineering Center," Lackey told attendees. "These ideas and patents allow us to foster open competition, and drive down cost of acquisition; enabling us to better support Soldiers in the field at a reduced cost. It's all about providing support to the warfighter."

"AMRDEC employees work selflessly everyday to improve and bring the best technologies to the war fighter, so it is an honor for them to be recognized today," said Cindy Wallace, deputy chief of AMRDEC's Office of Research and Technology Applications. "AMRDEC has a wealth of knowledge and expertise when it comes to developing and fielding cutting edge technology."

The patented inventions covered a variety of technology areas, including fluid handling, measuring and testing, ammunition and explosives, explosive and thermic compositions or charges, and aeronautics and astronautics. Many of the patents have both defense and commercial applications, according to Wallace.

The ORTA constantly seeks opportunities where Army innovations can be licensed for commercial application, according to Wallace.

AMRDEC is one of dozens of DoD laboratories actively involved in research and technology aimed at benefitting the U.S. Warfighter and giving the military unrivaled operational capability.

A web-based portal, DoD TechMatch (see related links), provides industry and academia a Department of Defense-sponsored solution to assist in finding research and development opportunities, licensable patents, and information on approximately 120 DOD Labs located across the United States. Registered users may receive a daily e-mail taking them to matching R&D opportunities from FedBizOpps, Grants.gov, and other solicitations; calendar events; and licensable patents relevant to their business.

The Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center is part of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, which has the mission to develop technology and engineering solutions for America's Soldiers.

RDECOM is a major subordinate command of the U.S. Army Materiel Command. AMC is the Army's premier provider of materiel readiness -- technology, acquisition support, materiel development, logistics power projection, and sustainment -- to the total force, across the spectrum of joint military operations. If a Soldier shoots it, drives it, flies it, wears it, eats it or communicates with it, AMC provides it.
