Davenport, Iowa --Several JMC employees participated in an Exploring Engineering event, held at the Rogalski Center, St. Ambrose University in Davenport Iowa, on Nov 4.

Cindy Brock, Lisa Heggen and Chris Heggen, spoke to more than 30 high school and college students about engineering careers, differences among the engineering disciplines and the role of engineers at the Joint Munitions Command.

Celia Hadden, Director, Quality Directorate, supported the event as JMC's lead Science Technology, Engineering and Math representative.

"This was a great opportunity for JMC to promote STEM in our community and also to get the JMC story out to young people, parents, St. Ambrose students, and other employers in the Quad-City are," said Hadden.

Hadden also serves as the National Defense Industrial Association representative on the Quad City Engineering and Science Council board. The QCESC promotes and supports engineering, science, and technical professionals and associated societies in the Quad City region and encourages and supports students to study STEM related fields.

The three JMC engineers showed students ammunition test video, discussed inert ammunition products and provided informational materials about JMC to students. The event was an educational opportunity for both the students and their parents.

"This was an awesome opportunity to talk about what I do as an engineer for the Army," said Cindy Brock. "I enjoyed the discussions with all the students."

"The event was a great success," said Jodi Prosise, PhD, St. Ambrose University Associate Professor of Engineering. "We had over 30 high school and community college students in attendance from as far as 100 miles away. All participants found the event to be very informative and rewarding."

Approximately 11 Quad City area companies were also in attendance to discuss engineering careers. They included the US Army Corps of Engineers-Rock Island District; Exelon Nuclear; John Deere; ALCOA; and Shive-Hattery, an architecture and engineering consulting firm.

JMC produces small-, medium- and large-caliber ammunition items for the Department of Defense. JMC is the logistics integrator for life-cycle management of ammunition and provides a global presence of technical support to U.S. combat units wherever they are stationed or deployed. JMC's logistics operation is unique to the DoD and is critical to the industrial base.
