FORT SILL, Okla. -- As 4th Battalion, 3rd Air Defense Artillery officially assumed its role as a global response force in support of Contingency Expeditionary Force (CEF), battalion leaders held a town hall meeting Oct. 15 to inform Soldiers and their families.
The meeting was held at Rinehart Fitness Center and involved around 15 outside agencies from the Lawton-Fort Sill community. The goal of the meeting was to inform Soldiers and their families of the resources offered to them both on and off post as well as answer any questions they may have in relation to their latest mission.
"The battalion's town hall allowed leadership to give family members important information that provides predictability. Hosting a town hall event that brings in 14 organizations and agencies from across Fort Sill and the local community creates a dynamic by which Soldiers, spouses and children can learn about many the resources available, both on and off Fort Sill, nurturing ready and resilient families," said Lt. Col. Todd Schmidt, 4-3rd ADA commander.
Close to 800 Soldiers and family members packed the bleachers at the fitness center and listened as the battalion command team laid out their mission requirements and also fielded questions from Soldiers and their families.
Later, family members browsed over 20 booths and received information on the many resources available to them.
"I gathered from seeing the expressions of the audience and the amount of agencies that were supporting the event, that everyone was absolutely satisfied. It was a successful event many of the agencies were able to provide resources on the spot, providing a jump start for the Soldiers and their families. The agency representatives all felt humbled to know that the services they provide were so well received. They were all very pleased with the outcome and look forward to helping out with assistance in the near future," said Staff Sgt. Elvia Davila, battalion adjutant.
Taking care of Soldiers and their families is the number one priority of battalion leaders, and ensuring their Soldiers are mission ready is crucial to accomplish this task.
