CAMP ZAMA, Japan (Oct. 21, 2014) -- The U.S. Army Garrison Japan hosted a change of responsibility ceremony Oct. 21 at the Camp Zama Youth Center, here, where Command Sgt. Maj. Katrina M. Najee relinquished responsibility of USAG-J to Command Sgt. Maj. Rosalba Dumont-Carrion.

Dumont-Carrion will assume responsibility for Najee, who has served in the position since July 2012.

In front of Soldiers, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force members, community members and other guests, Col. Joy Curriera, commander of USAG-J, praised Najee for her "tireless and dynamic" leadership over the past two years.

"It was her vision and leadership which established programs such as the first female mentorship program for USAG-J, the first ever bilateral Japanese-American BOSS program, and the first bilateral female mentorship program," Curriera mentioned, while addressing Najee's accomplishments during her remarks.

"What I will miss the most is (the) bilateral partnership that I've had with JGSDF," Najee said. "I appreciate the bond (that) we have made with one another."

Dumont-Carrion comes to USAG-J from USAG Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey where she served as command sergeant major.

"Not only it's a privilege but it's an honor," said Dumont-Carrion, "to be able to take (responsibility) of the Garrison in Japan has been a dream come true."

Dumont-Carrion promised to continue the bilateral communications, to build upon what has already been started, and to (hopefully) find new ways to make Garrison Japan a better place to live and work.
