FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- It was a proud day for the U.S. Army Security Assistance Training Management Organization, as Command Sgt. Maj. Steven Green, who served as the unit's first command sergeant major, relinquished his responsibilities to Command Sgt. Maj. Brian Hester during a ceremony held Oct. 17.
Green will retire after a spectacular 24-year Army career, which included service in some of the Army's most illustrious units, including the 82nd Airborne Division and the 75th Ranger Regiment. Over the course of Green's career, he served in several light infantry assignments, with combat service in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Green took the opportunity to thank USASATMO personnel, as well as his family. With Green were his wife, Lisa; his daughter, Madison; and his son, Landon.
Succeeding Green is Hester, a non-commissioned officer with more than 24 years of service. Hester has served extensively in light infantry assignments, with two combat tours in Iraq and another two in Afghanistan. Most recently, Hester served as the command sergeant major of 1/38th Cavalry at Fort Bragg.
As Hester addressed his new unit he remarked, "My promise to you all is that I will work with each of you to accomplish our mission in a first class way."
Following the ceremony, Col. Andy Boston, USASATMO commander, recognized Green's achievements during a retirement ceremony. Boston called Green the "gold standard" toward which all Soldiers should strive.
USASATMO, comprised of nearly 300 Soldiers and civilians, is the face of the Army in more than 25 nations, providing tailored security assistance teams to partner nations throughout the world. Its motto, "Training the world, one Soldier at a time," reflects its unique mission supporting the Army and the U.S. military geographic combatant commands. USASATMO is part of the U.S. Army Materiel Command and a subordinate command of the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command.
