PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. (Sept. 25, 2014) --Three members of the Army Materiel Systems Analysis Activity (AMSAA) group toured Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, Sept. 24 as a follow-up action to technical and facility data that Picatinny submitted in the spring.

AMSAA is an organization within the Army Materiel Command (AMC) that conducts a variety of critical analyses to provide state-of-the-art analytical solutions to senior level Army and Department of Defense officials.

The members met with leaders of the Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) and toured various facilities. The purpose of the visit was to gain a greater understanding of ARDEC's state-of-the-art capabilities to support an AMC-wide study of core technical competencies and capabilities resident within AMC.

The AMSAA members discussed with ARDEC leaders strategic, funding and workforce issues. They also sought to gain a better understanding about the arsenal's facilities and the work that is performed in each one.

Facilities visited include the Davidson Warhead facility, the Wind Tunnel facility, the Directed Energy Research facility, and the Target Behavioral Response Laboratory.

Focusing on "excellence in analysis," the Army Materiel Systems Analysis Activity is located in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. Its mission is to conduct analyses across the materiel lifecycle by aiming to provide responsive systems analyses that support the equipping and sustaining of weapons and materiel for our current and future warfighters.

At Picatinny Arsenal, ARDEC is an internationally acknowledged hub for the advancement of armament technologies and engineering innovation. It strives to support the Army's efforts to ensure Soldier survivability and enhance platform and area protection by providing engineering, design and development support.
