McAlester, OKLA. -- McAlester Army Ammunition Plant demonstrated its capabilities in bomb production during a senior Air Force official visit held, here, September 23.

Col. Darren Cochran, Senior Materiel Leader, Direct Attack Division, Armament Directorate, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center based out of Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, toured MCAAP's bomb production facilities.

One of five centers under the Air Force Materiel Command, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center is the single command responsible for total life cycle management of Air Force Weapons systems.

During the tour, Cochran toured the production line, the explosive laboratory and special-purpose load facility. He noted how conventional bombs are loaded, viewed bomb line modernization and personally loaded a bomb.

Gary Reasnor, Civilian Deputy, MCAAP, noted Cochran "was truly surprised at the complexity of MCAAP and how many of his programs are interfaced."

Cochran enjoyed the opportunity to load a bomb and was "impressed" by MCAAP's capabilities, added Reasnor. Cochran also mentioned that his visit was well worth the time spent and expressed his appreciation for the support MCAAP provides to the Air Force programs.

This visit highlighted how the MCAAP provides all types of conventional and missile ammunition to the various military services, including the Air Force, Navy and Marines.

McAlester Army Ammunition Plant loads bombs and warheads for the Department of Defense. It is one of 14 installations of the Joint Munitions Command and one of 23 organic industrial bases under the U.S. Army Materiel Command.
