CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Letterkenny Army Depot and Raytheon Company recently signed a partnership agreement for continuing modernization of Patriot Air and Missile Defense Systems Oct. 10.
The agreement formalizes the relationship between the Army and Raytheon to ensure that Patriot systems are equipped with the latest hardware and software to meet and defeat new challenges in the battlespace.
With this agreement in place, Letterkenny will build new cables to be installed on Configuration 3 upgrade kits for Patriot missile systems. This work will be in support of initiatives known as "Pure Fleet" and "Grow the Army."
This round of upgrades affects three Patriot battalions.
Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems is the prime contractor for Patriot systems integration, and Letterkenny is the Army's primary installation for maintaining and rebuilding Patriot systems.
"This partnering is a "win-win" for Letterkenny and Raytheon," said Col. Steven Shapiro, depot commander. "It provides cost effective, quality products for our soldiers in the field defending against sophisticated threat aircraft, tactical ballistic and cruise missiles."
"Raytheon is pleased to expand our relationship with Letterkenny Army Depot in support of Patriot system upgrades," said Joseph "Skip" Garrett, Raytheon's vice president and deputy for Patriot Programs.
"Working together, we will ensure the Army is equipped with the latest technology to meet current and emerging threats."
