Womack Army Medical Center and the new command team have completed their first 100 days. Some of the accomplishments they have achieved are listed below. Those who would like to discuss the issues in further detail can contact Shannon Lynch at 907-9922 or via e-mail at usarmy.bragg.medcom-wamc.mbx.wamc-pao@mail.mil.
The Joint Commission surveyed WAMC twice -- once in June and again in August. The commission noted the dramatic progress made since the March survey, and the safety and quality of the care provided by the staff continues on an upward trend. Of particular note, the commission stated that WAMC has made great strides in infection control because of an organization-wide effort.
With the help of the medical staffs assigned to other Fort Bragg units, along with assistance from other Medical Command professionals, the Emergency Department has shown significant improvement in several ways including a drop in wait times as well as patients who leave without being seen.
WAMC has streamlined the civilian hiring process, and have more than 250 civilians who have either started to work or are scheduled to start in the near future.
The center has been visited by two members of Congress, the vice chief of staff or the Army, the Army surgeon general, the Task Force Bragg commanding general, Northern Regional Medical Command commanding general and the command sergeant major. All visits were considered successful and productive.
The Warrior Transition Battalion established the first Community Care Unit in the Army, which has been certified as fully capable.
WAMC has delivered hundreds of babies, filled thousands of prescriptions, completed thousands of outpatient appointments, performed hundreds of surgical procedures, thanks to a staff or more than 3,800 professionals all rowing in the same direction, said Stephens.
In the coming weeks and months, Stephens said the medical center will aggressively implement TeamSTEPPS, incorporate recommendations of consultants, and complete the construction project without losing capacity or capability in the Emergency Department or the Mother/Baby Unit. The center will also continue to promulgate its vision emphasizing quality caring - synonymous with treating teammates, patients, and visitors with kindness, respect, dignity, and compassion.
