Morning workouts have taken a whole new meaning for former Soldier turned fitness instructor, Schenley Green. Green voluntarily leads a team on a Body Blast Workout on Towle Field, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9 a.m.
One of the many workout groups around the Fort Bragg community, "Blast It Fitness," is where Green unleashes her enthusiasm and passion for fitness and military Families.
"My mission is reaching the hearts of military Families thru health, wellness and fitness," said Green.
"Just simply having a place to meet other military Families who have a common goal of growth, is what motivates me," she said.
So what is "Blast It Fitness?"
"Blast It Fitness" is the workout group's name and Body Blast is the type or design of their workout.
Green incorporates cardio, resistance training and core training into a full body workout.
"I would hardly label it just an aerobics class," Green said. "In this group you get a little of everything," she continued.
"Every Body Blast class is different; one class may focus on abs and the next class on balance," said Green.
Green and her team don't use fancy equipment. They use things you can easily carry or find around the house like jump ropes, dumbbells, and resistance bands.
Anyone can join the Blast It Fitness group. It's free, easily accommodates different fitness levels, and children are welcomed. Everyone involved gets the opportunity of working out with a group of people that have a common goal and encourage each other.
"If you are a busy person and only have one hour in the day to workout, this class keeps you in the cardio zone the entire time," Green said. "It is an intense workout but you leave the class feeling great," she said.
To accommodate for many of her students who have small children and busy schedules, Green's takes the best of weight training, core training and cardio, and packs it into a one-hour session.
This class has been a great opportunity for a spouse who recently just moved to Fort Bragg, to meet other people in the community.
"I have been participating in Body Blast class for three months and it's a fun and exciting group. I've really enjoyed meeting other people here," said Anne K. Heibel, a spouse of a Paratrooper assigned to 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.
"Also I love the fact that I can bring my son to the class and not have to pay for it," she said.
Blast It Fitness is not only a workout but also a place where many of the participants have developed friendship too.
"It's about more than just physical fitness, it's more than a workout group, we are a team," said Green.
"This group is free because I love helping out military Families," said Green. "They are my passion."
