PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- The U.S. Army Entertainment Program brought its high-spirited Soldier Show to the Presidio's Price Fitness Center, closing the post's day-long Resiliency Festival with an up-beat, patriotic coda Sept. 4.

The Presidio's Fitness Festival was part of the Army's Resiliency Campaign, and the popular Soldier Show was a centerpiece of the festival program and highlighted U.S. Army themes of readiness, resiliency and combating sexual harassment.

The Soldier Show, "entertainment for the Soldier, by the Soldier" is a completely self-contained touring operation of talented singers, dancers and musicians performing at select Army garrison locations for audiences of both service members and civilians.

This year's production was a 75-minute show, titled "Stand Strong." The theme of the show explored the foundational elements of what it is that instills the strength and character of the Soldiers of the Army.

As in the past, the cast and crew are selected to exemplify the Army values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage.

This year's show included tribute to Blue and Gold Star families, and covered topics from how to deal with coming home after a long deployment, to Sexual Harassment Assault Response and Prevention.

After the show, Gold Star families had the opportunity to meet the cast and mingle at a reception held in their honor, which was hosted by Presidio Garrison and Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center leaders Col. Paul Fellinger and Col. David Chapman.

The modern-day Soldiers Show has been part of the Army's heritage since 1984, but has always been a popular show with all military service members, regardless of their branch of service.

"I enjoyed the Presidio's Resiliency Festival, but I rode the city MST bus over from the Naval Postgraduate School specifically to attend the Soldier Show," said Navy Ensign Christian Marquardt.

"I loved it; the singing and dancing is as good as anything I've seen in a Las Vegas show -- and the best part is, it's absolutely free," he added.
