PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. - Col. Scott Turner talks to community leaders during a municipal forum and luncheon held Sept. 3 at the Cannon Gates Catering and Conference Center at Picatinny Arsenal. Turner is the military deputy at the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center, the largest organization at Picatinny.
The local elected officials and members of the Morris County Chamber of Commerce received overviews of the installation's mission, educational and community outreach efforts and impact on the local economy.
"We are pretty proud of what we do for the community," said Lt. Col. Ingrid Parker, Picatinny Arsenal Garrison Commander. "We use the community to perpetuate how we grow."
Parker noted that the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Act (BRAC) brought hundreds of new jobs to the area, while the consolidation made for a more "joint" or multi-service force rather than a mainly U.S. Army workforce.
