Army Community Service's Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is here to help Soldiers who have family members with any medical or educational special need.
EFMP is a mandatory enrollment program; therefore it is important Soldiers understand the procedures and where to go for enrollment and support services.
The main purpose of EFMP is to identify family members who have medical, educational or emotional needs. The program is the Army's tracking system and assists the Army in ensuring Soldiers get stationed in places where those needs can be met.
Soldiers who need EFMP enrollment services can contact Kristy Buzbee, the EFMP special needs adviser at Reynolds Army Community Hospital, 580-558-3460.
EFMP provides all of the support services associated with having a family member with special needs.
It works with military and civilian agencies to provide comprehensive and coordinated community support to Soldiers and their families. The program also provides advocacy and case management services.
A systems navigator can help families who have recently moved to the area and need additional assistance.
EFMP also has a respite care program for family members who have severe needs. The respite care program offers up to 40 hours of care to give the primary care giver a break from his or her care giving responsibilities.
The EFMP staff at Army Community Service also hosts free monthly support group activities for families. In them, families can network in a recreational environment. Last year, EFMP hosted bowling nights, scrapbooking and a spring carnival. Families also went on a field trip to an Oklahoma City Red Hawks game.
EFMP plays a role in ensuring other activities on post are accessible to disabled people. To request accommodations for any activity, for more information about the program or to become involved in EFMP events, email april.plumley@us.army.mil or call 580-442-4916.
