GRAFENWOEHR, Germany -- Suicide is the 11th leading cause of all deaths in the United States and the third leading cause of death for people between the ages of 15 and 24.

Every 16 minutes, someone known as a friend, co-worker or a loved one dies from suicide. These desperate actions touch more than 5 million Americans each year.

Preventing suicide is one of DoD's highest priorities. This year's theme, "Enhancing Resiliency -- Strengthening Our Professionals," reinforces the DoD's pledge to not only build resilience, but support those in need -- enhancing performance, increasing readiness and building a stronger force.

Throughout September, U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria will host several events aimed at increasing awareness and strengthening our community. In addition to a full stand-down day, the garrison will host a candlelight vigil, provide training to help senior leaders responds to warning signs of suicidal ideations, and offer numerous opportunities for community members to obtain information on suicide prevention and resources.

Suicide prevention is everyone's business.
