REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- In front of family and distinguished guests, Col. Michael D. Hoskin, Expeditionary Contracting Command commander, was promoted to the rank of brigadier general during a Sept. 2 ceremony here.

Maj. Gen. Ted Harrison, Army Contracting Command commanding general, officiated at the ceremony. After praising the work Hoskin has done in the Army contracting community, Harrison continued by saying, "Mike, we're proud of you and look forward to your continued success as one of our Army leaders."

The newly promoted brigadier general thanked his wife Debby, along with fellow Soldiers and the ACC workforce.

"I am honored and humbled to serve as the commanding general of the Expeditionary Contracting Command," said Hoskin. "Being an assertive leader to my nation, to the command, and to our personnel is my style."

"A Colin Powell quote I like is that 'A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work.' And so we will continue to mature ECC and make it the 9-1-1 of expeditionary contracting for our Army," said Hoskin.

Both of Hoskin's parents were U.S. Marines. His mom served in the Corps before leaving to raise their two daughters; his dad retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant.

Hoskin graduated Ferrum College in Virginia and was commissioned through ROTC in 1986, beginning his military career as an armor officer at Fort Lewis, Washington. He has served at various levels of command and staff positions throughout his career. He assumed command of ECC on Aug. 1.

His military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and numerous other awards and decorations. He is Airborne qualified and wears the Army and Joint Staff badges. He was recognized as the Acquisition Commander of the Year 2012, Federal Executive Board Best Command of the Year 2010, DCMA Army Commander of the Year in 2007 and Federal Executive Board Leader of the Year in 2003.
