Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland: On September 1st, our country will pause to celebrate Labor Day as a way to pay tribute to the absolute strength of this great nation, "the American worker." Our nation's strength, freedom, and prosperity would be impossible without the dedication and tireless efforts of the resilient American workforce.
Labor Day is also traditionally associated with the end of summer and one last time to enjoy the weather, recreation and other activities that make summer great.
As you enjoy time with friends and family, I ask all to also reflect on the importance of "accountability" and "responsibility." Accountable to a nation who adores you because you took an oath to serve....responsible for each other as a part of the most respected profession on earth.
Historically, an installation as diverse and engaged as APG, could lose Soldiers, Civilians, or Family Members to a preventable accident during the holiday weekend. But we can prevent that from happening by remaining accountable and responsible.
This Labor Day, take time to reflect on all the hard work and sacrifice of the American worker by remembering to thank them for their service. And were it not for their service, our service would not be possible.
I encourage everyone to have as much responsible fun as possible and enjoy the fruits of your labor. You've earned it. I also want to express my sincerest appreciation for all you do each day to sustain our Army as a profession. Thank you very much for standing strong in defense of this great nation.
APG Strong, Army Strong!
