FORT BENNING, Ga., (Aug. 20, 2014) -- Commentary: 2-minute warning
OUT FOR THE SEASON
Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett is out for the season due to a knee injury.
He tore his right ACL an hour into practice Aug. 18 during 11-on-11 drills. This means Dockett will need surgery and will miss the entire season.
Dockett's injury is a definitely a loss for the Cardinals.
Not only was the team's defense ranked sixth in the league last season with him in the game, but Dockett has played the most games (158) by a defensive linemen since 2004 - his rookie year.
Having only missed two games during his career due to other injuries, missing an entire season must feel really out of the norm for him.
Dockett commented on Twitter, though it will be a "tough road" that lies ahead, he has been through worse.
ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST
Left-handed tennis player and two-time U.S. Open champion Rafael Nadal won't be at the U.S. Open that begins next week because of an injury to his right wrist. He injured his wrist while practicing.
Sportscenter's Chris Hassel made a couple of statements that sum up Nadal's injuries.
"This marks the third straight year and fifth time since 2005 that Nadal will sit out a Grand Slam event," he said. "In fact, he nearly has a grand slam of Grand Slam events he's missed. The only one he has perfect attendance at (is) the French Open, a tournament he has won a record of nine times. He loves the (French Open), he won't miss that."
Hassel's comments are factful and sarcastic, which makes them all the more funny.
GROWN MAN FIT
Minor League manager for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Joe Mikulik, went berserk over a call at home plate resulting in the runner being called out while sliding Aug. 17.
Mikulik threw his helmet, kicked dirt on an umpire, imitated the player's slide twice, removed his shoes and jersey, placed them on home plate and intensely motioned the safe sign.
Fortunately, Mikulik isn't foreign to outbursts like these, so this one and the previous fits can be viewed via the Internet.
While managing the Asheville Tourists in 2006, Mikulik threw second base into right field and in 2012 he removed another bag and gave it to a fan.
I must say his temper makes for good television.
A BROWN AND A BIRD
Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel gave the Washington Redskins' sideline the finger Aug. 18.
Manziel didn't have his best first Monday Night Football game and extra words of "encouragement" from the opponents didn't help.
Sportscenter's Stan Verrett made a hilarious comment.
"Johnny Football becomes Johnny Finger," he said.
Verrett said the Browns have been working with Manziel on decision making - a point of emphasis - but, they don't want him "pointing with that finger."
