CAMP HUMPHREYS -- Humphreys Gaming, a room of computers, video and arcade games in the Community Activity Center, officially opened with a ribbon cutting here, Aug. 8.

Col. Darin S. Conkright, U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys commander, and Don Claycomb, the Family and MWR director, cut the ribbon to officially open the new gaming facility.

The main game room features a plethora of high-tech gaming options for Soldiers and families, including an X-Box Kinect and 16 47-inch LG Smart televisions, each hooked up to X-Box 360's and PS3's.

The game room also features arcade games such as Time Crisis 3, Terminator Salvation, Midnight Maxim Tune 3, Pump It Up Fiesta, Street Fighter IV, basketball, Manx Super Bike, Star Wars Episode I pinball and a photo booth. In a separate, nearby section, 10 Alienware gaming computers that feature World Diablo 3, League of Legends, Starcraft, World of Tanks and other games await.

The computers and video games are all free to play and the arcade games are token-operated and charge a nominal fee.

The goal of developing the game room was to provide additional recreational activities in a safe on-post environment. According to Claycomb, "the intent is to offer Soldiers an additional leisure-time activity. We want to provide an engaging alternative to just hanging out in their rooms."

It seems those goals have been successfully met, as the area is already being very well utilized and well-received.

"We average 150 customers using the game room each day," said Ann Ernst, the acting CAC manager. "So, over the last two months, it's seen about 9,000 users and everyone is really excited to have this available."

Participating Soldiers are in agreement.

"There are a lot of games in here; a lot more than you can get in your barracks room," said Pvt. Lukas Zurcher, who attended the grand opening and has been playing in the facility for several weeks.
