FORT BENNING, Ga., (Aug. 6, 2014) -- Preschool and PreK students from the 1st Division Child Development Center spent a day outside the classroom for fun, food and games.

The center, in partnership with its Parent Advisory Council, hosted its Back to School Bash Aug. 1 to get students excited about returning to school.

Activities included waterslides, bounce houses, carnival games, and a special visit from Sparky the Fire Dog, the Fort Benning Fire Department and the Tru Ryderz motorcycle club. 1st Division CDC administrative assistant and Parental Advisory Council member Elizabeth Gasper said students also took home a bag full of school supplies donated by local businesses.

"We wanted to do something not only as employees but as parents because we do have children who attend," Gasper said. "Our PreK program is starting back, so we wanted those kids to come and get a feel for the center. We wanted to give our older students a good send off because many of them have been with us since they were infants and toddlers. We love the kids here. They really mean a lot to us."

Family member Brittany Caldwell said the event was a great way for her 2-year-old daughter Elizabeth to make new friends.

"I think it's great that they involve the parents too and do more outside activities," she said. "It's fun to get the community together and involved with the kids."
