FORT SILL, Okla. (July 24, 2014) -- The manager of the Fort Sill Twin Oaks Bowling Center received a prestigious national certification recently.

Kelly Wright, TOBC manager, completed the intensive Bowling Proprietor's Association of America (BPAA) Online Training and Management Certification Program. She received the recognition at the International Bowl Expo in late June in Orlando, Fla.

"I feel very proud. It took me a year and a half to do it, and I was the second person in the nation to complete the

BPAA certification," Wright said. "It shows that I have a broader scope on the different operations of the bowling facility."

The training became available two years ago, Wright said. It consisted of four topics: food and beverage, maintenance, marketing and leadership. Each topic culminated with a nine-section capstone lesson that took anywhere from one to three months to complete.

"I learned a lot about the maintenance department because I really don't do much back there," said Wright, who supervises 30 employees. "That was my hardest class to complete."

The 36-lane TOBC is a world-class facility certified by the U.S. Bowling Congress.

"The USBC certification means that our lanes are oiled correctly, and tilts and measurements are within certain specs," said Wright, who has been TOBC manager for five years.

TOBC regularly hosts Pro Bowlers Association tournaments, offers bowling leagues and hosts local high school regional play.

"The Eisenhower (High School) girl's have been state champions for two years in a row. Before that they were second in state; and our first year Lawton High finished second," she said. "So we've gotten a trophy every year."

And, the bowling center's numerous thank you plaques are a testament to the local unit tournaments, organizational days and functions it hosts.

The manager said the best part of her job is working with the youngsters.

"I love working with the children; I have the bowling camp every year. I have the youth league, and I coach the pee-wees," she said. "That's my passion -- the kids."

Wright said with her new certification and training there will be a few things she'll install into the facility, but there won't be any drastic changes.
