WASHINGTON (July 23, 2014) -- Several hundred members of the public gambled on the weather to watch the Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" perform a Twilight Tattoo hosted by Gen. Dennis L. Via, the U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC) commanding general, on Whipple Field, Joint Base Myer- Henderson Hall, Va.
Via also administered the oath of enlistment to more than 30 new Soldiers prior to the start of the show.
AMC is the Army's provider of materiel readiness - technology, acquisition support, materiel development, logistics power projection, and sustainment - to the total force, across the spectrum of joint military operations.
In other words, if a Soldier shoots it, drives it, flies it, wears it, eats it or communicates with it, AMC provides it.
Via's command impacts or has a presence in all 50 states and 146 countries. Manning these organizations is a work force of more than 67,000 military and civilian employees, many with highly developed specialties in weapons development, manufacturing and logistics.
Produced by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington, Twilight Tattoo is an hour-long, live-action military pageant that provides audiences from around the world a glimpse into American history through performances by the U.S. Army Blues, vocalists from the U.S. Army Band Downrange, the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and the U.S. Army Drill Team.
Twilight Tattoo is performed on Wednesday evening's beginning at 7 p.m. Pre-ceremony entertainment begins at 6:45 p.m. Performances from July 9 through Aug. 20 will be located at Whipple Field, JBM-HH and of course if the weather is bad, it is held indoors at Conmy Hall on JBM-HH.
