Commentary: 2-minute warning

FORT BENNING, Ga., (July 16, 2014) -- After the crazy win over Brazil, Germany went on to defeat Argentina and win the FIFA World Cup.

Germany made it through the World Cup without a loss. During the tournament, Germany beat Portugal 4-0, USA 1-0, Algeria 2-1, France 1-0 and Brazil 7-1. They tied with Ghana 2-2.

So, let's take a look at how Germany did it.

THE DRAW

In the tie game with Ghana, Mario Goetze made the first goal for either team at 51 minutes in and his teammate, Miroslav Klose, made the second goal. Germany had a total of 11 shots with six on goal, compared to Ghana who totaled 20 shots with 10 on goal. Ghana's scorers were Andre Ayew and Asamoah Gyan.

THE SEMI-FINALS

Germany blasted through the first half with its first five goals, the last four being almost back-to-back.

Brazil received a yellow card in the final half while also getting their only goal in the game by Oscar Dos Santos Emboaba Junior, or Oscar, for short. Germany's Andre Schurrle scored the final two goals.

THE FINAL GAME

It was a tough match since the Germans easily defeated Brazil 7-1 and only won by a goal against Argentina.

The winning goal was by 22-year-old Goetze, midfielder, in overtime. He made the goal after Schurrle passed the ball to him. Goetze stopped the ball with his chest before kicking it past Argentina's goalie Sergio Romero.

HOW THE USA MISSED OUT

The U.S. team was eliminated in round of 16 2-1 by Belgium.

They won 2-1 against Ghana before tying Portugal 2-2. They lost to Germany 1-0 (thankfully, not as badly as Brazil did to Germany) and were eliminated July 1 in the game against Belgium.

Although they started out strong in the World Cup, it just wasn't in the cards. Belgium never lost a game until they went against the second-place World Cup finisher -- Argentina. If they'd beaten Belgium, they'd have faced Argentina instead.

But Belgium managed to squash the dreams of the U.S. team.

Argentina also never lost a game. Their match against the Netherlands (before the finals) was a 0-0 draw and Argentina won 4-2 on penalties. The U.S. simply had too much good competition. Better luck next time.
