FORT BENNING, Ga., (July 16, 2014) -- With summer temperatures rising, members of the tricommunity area may be looking for ways to keep cool and have fun at the same time.

I don't know about you, but a trip to the theater has always been one of my favorite summer pastimes, and the tricommunity area has several options for local moviegoers.

There are five major local theaters, each with its own unique offerings.

There's the Carmike Wynnsong 10 on post, which offers the hottest Hollywood movies on high quality screens, all without having to leave Fort Benning.

Some may opt to see movies in Columbus, but before you head into town, don't forget that there's also a theater at the National Infantry Museum. The IMAX screen at the NIM routinely screens documentaries, as well as select Hollywood films.

And as far as picture goes, you can't beat the IMAX experience. IMAX films use the largest commercial film format in motion picture history - 70 mm, 15-perforation - 10 times the size of the 35 mm standard used in convention filming.

The NIM isn't the only IMAX game in town, however, as the Carmike 15 on Whittlesey Boulevard in Columbus recently added an IMAX screen to go along with the company's other large-format screen, the BigD.

In addition to the two larger screens, the Carmike 15 also features the area's only D-BOX theater, which features motion-enabled seats with movements that correspond to the action taking place on screen.

Or, if you're looking for a place for the kids to unwind while mom and dad catch a movie on their own, you could visit the Hollywood Connection on Whittlesey Road. In addition to a 13-screen theater, it also has mini-golf, a skating rink, laser tag and an arcade on site.

And while the theater offers all the latest Hollywood blockbusters, there are also often limited screenings of opera, ballet and other stage productions.

But, if you're looking for more of a bargain, you might check out the Peachtree 8 on Manchester Expressway. This theater features Hollywood films that are no longer new releases, but offers them at a discounted rate - $2.25 per ticket Sunday through Thursday and $2.50 per ticket Friday and Saturday.
