Acting Deputy to the Garrison Commander, U.S. Army Garrison Casey

Mr. David R. Oten was commissioned as an Infantry Officer through the Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia on March 11, 1982. Retiring in October 2004, he entered the civil service in February 2005 as a Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist after a twenty-three year military career as an Army Infantry and Public Affairs Officer, having served in a variety of command and staff assignments. His 33-year, combined federal career includes both operations and public affairs assignments at the Pentagon and in the Republic of Korea, serving most recently here in 2011 as the chief of public information and command spokesman for the Headquarters, United States Forces Korea in Seoul.

Mr. Oten assumed his duties as the Acting Deputy to the Garrison Commander, Camp Casey July 3, 2014 . Prior to his arrival, he served as Chief of Public Affairs Officer for Area I. Mr. Oten assists the Commander of Camp Casey with a multi-faceted support effort in to meet the personnel and logistics needs of the Soldiers, Civilians and military-affiliated family members stationed here. His civilian awards include the Joint Civilian Service Achievement Award, the Army Superior Civilian Service Award and the Office of the Secretary of Defense Exceptional Civilian Service Award.

Mr. Oten holds a degree in Economics from Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, and he is a graduate of the Defense Information School. He is married and has two adult daughters.
