FORT BENNING, Ga., (July 9, 2014) -- It has been a great privilege to serve with you. Because of the professionalism and dedication to duty of our team at the Maneuver Center, we have made tremendous progress in ensuring that our Army's Soldiers, leaders and units remain prepared to fight and win under all conditions of combat. I am proud of how our talented team of Soldiers and civilians have worked together; shared and borrowed ideas and best practices; maintained the highest standards; increased realism and rigor of our training, expanded opportunities for combined arms training; institutionalized lessons and adaptations from 13 years of war; and developed new doctrine and combat capabilities to meet emerging threats. I am proud of how our team has coordinated closely with others across our Army, allied and partner militaries, and other services to ensure that we continue to learn from each other and are prepared to overmatch any enemy in any environment. And I am proud of all of our Soldiers and civilians who support our critical efforts in leader development, training, doctrine, and combat developments and make Fort Benning such a great place. As Katie and I depart, we want to express our gratitude to all at Fort Benning and in our local community who make this such a rewarding and enjoyable place to serve. Thank you.
All who serve at Fort Benning and the Maneuver Center will soon realize how fortunate they are to serve in Maj. Gen. Scott Miller's command. Maj. Gen. Miller is a leader of great vision who has the most extensive operational experience of any officer I know. He has commanded with distinction in a broad range of units from mechanized and Airborne Infantry to the 75th Ranger Regiment. And he has led Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines from ours and partner nations in battle from Mogadishu to multiple combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. It was during his two most recent command tours in Afghanistan that coalition servicemen and -women, fighting alongside courageous Afghan security forces, achieved unprecedented success against murderous enemies in a very complex political environment. Maj. Gen. Scott Miller and Command Sgt. Maj. Tim Guden are the ideal command team to take Fort Benning to the next level.
