MCoE set to receive new commander

FORT BENNING, Ga., (July 9, 2014) -- Maj. Gen. H. R. McMaster will relinquish command of the Maneuver Center of Excellence and Fort Benning to Maj. Gen. Scott Miller during a change of command ceremony at 8 a.m. July 11 on Parade Field at the National Infantry Museum.

McMaster, who has been selected for promotion to lieutenant general, has been reassigned to Fort Monroe, Virginia, where he will serve as the director of the Army Capabilities Integration Center, Training and Doctrine Command. A date for his promotion has not been announced.

McMaster is a 1984 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, where he taught history from 1994 to 1996.

He also holds a Master of Arts and doctorate in American history from the University of North Carolina.

Miller has commanded at every rank from captain to major general, to include combat tours in Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as support for contingency operations in Bosnia and Latin America.

He served as the commander of NATO Special Operations Component Command-Afghanistan and Special Operations Joint Task Force-Afghanistan from June 2013 to June 2014.

Miller will be the fourth commander of the Maneuver Center of Excellence after McMaster and his predecessors, now-retired Lt. Gen. Michael Ferriter and Lt. Gen. Robert Brown.
