FORT BENNING, Ga., (July 2, 2014) -- National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center Freedom Fest at the National Infantry Museum from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. July 4.

The Maneuver Center of Excellence's popular rock band will kick off the activities at 11 a.m. At noon, the MCoE Jazz Band swings in and at 1 p.m. the concert band fills the air with toe-tapping patriotic favorites. The Oneeders will rock the stage at 3 p.m., and live music from local bands will finish up the musical entertainment at 4:45 p.m.

There will also be bounce houses, live re-enactments and other activities all day and a parade at 2 p.m.

Children are invited to dress up their bicycles, tricycles and wagons - or themselves - and parade down Heritage Walk. Judges will award prizes for the most creative displays of patriotism. Admission to Freedom Fest is free. There will be nominal costs for the IMAX Theater, combat simulators, and food and drinks. For more information, visit www.nationalinfantrymuseum.org.

PHENIX CITY, ALABAMA CELEBRATES JULY 4.

Concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m. at the Phenix City Amphitheater. Free admission.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION AT LAKEPOINT RESORT STATE PARK (EUFAULA, ALABAMA)

Starts at noon July 5 at Lakepoint Resort State Park in Eufaula, Alabama. Fireworks display, food, art, live music, children's activities and more. Personal fireworks are not allowed. For more information, call 334-687-8011.

INDEPENDENCE DAY AT FLORENCE MARINA STATE PARK in Omaha, Georgia. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 5-6.

Celebrate the Fourth of July weekend with games, a watermelon eating contest and educational boat tours on Lake Walter F. George. Make reservations early for campsites and cabins. $5 plus $5 parking. For more information, call 229-838-4706.

COME AND CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 4 at Historic Westville.

Enjoy three legged races, sack races, greased pole climb, hobby horse races, apple bobbing, tug of war, live music, and a watermelon eating and seed spitting contest. Bring your patriotic decorated stroller, wagon, wheelchair or dress yourself in red, white and blue and join the parade through the village.

There will be boiled peanuts and kettle corn. The Kiser House Restaurant will be serving barbecue and rib plates, corn-on-the cob, and strawberry-blueberry shortcake. $8-$10. Children Pre-K and younger are free. For more information, visit www.westville.org/events.html.

Flag-Making Contest

Make your own homemade flag to be judged. All ages are welcome to participate. Materials and flag-making rules will be available at the campground pavilion in the improved campground starting July 2. Flags must be turned in no later than 9 a.m. July 5. Turn in flags at DeSoto's Nature Center. Examples of flags from year's past can be seen at the Nature Center. Free to participate.

Splish and Splash Pool Party

6:30-9 p.m. Join the fun at the Splish and Splash Pool Party. Cool off in our Olympic-size pool, play pool games, eat homemade ice cream and enter for door prizes. $1 admission fee.

Independence Day Parade

This annual event is fun for both children and adults. Decorate your vehicle to show your spirit.

Parade will start at 3 p.m. July 5. It begins at DeSoto's Park headquarters and ends in DeSoto's improved campground in time for the Ice Cream Social.
