BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan--A hot, dry wind blew across the 63 acres that make up 3-401st Army Field Support Battalion's Logistics Task Force North on Camp John Pratt just days before the site will be vacated. The move is in line with the evolving mission of the LTF and right-sizing the battalion and its subordinate units.
The LTF will be moving about a mile away to a site on Camp Marmal and will occupy six acres. The move will impact approximately 200 people -- Soldiers, Department of the Army Civilians and contractors.
"We're going from 63 acres to six," said Maj. David E. McCormick, LTF North commander. "We will have positive control in the smaller space."
McCormick added that it will be a live-work area for the military and civilians who will have living spaces in one section of the compound. The contractors will be housed a couple of blocks away. McCormick said some of the advantages to the move are that they will be closer to services provided by the garrison.
The Redistribution Property Assistance Team is one of the focal points of the LTF mission. Units turn in equipment in accordance with Army directives and the LTF relieves the unit of property accountability for the equipment and then processes it for future missions as directed by the Army.
"Vehicles will roll in and have the first ammo abatement check," said McCormick. "We will sign for the equipment, remove theater provided equipment and government furnished equipment, another ammo abatement check, wash the vehicles and stage them for movement to the flight line."
McCormick said the new location is very close to the flight line and it will be easier to move equipment on short notice.
Planning for the move has included close contact with supported units to ensure the LTF will be able to support as required for mission accomplishment.
